1970 saw ΓÇÿMiniΓÇÖ formally get its real name and in 1972 Mini sales smashed the 3 million mark. Seat belts became a standard feature and the following year a 998cc engine replaced the 1098cc powered Mini.
More features in 1977 ΓÇö now with reversing lights, reclining seats and dipping rear view mirrors.
Equality at last, but only for the Mini, as women made up 50% of the buyers in 1978.
As Mini celebrated its 20th birthday, demand went through the roof and production doubled.
